Koh Samui Best Beaches

Koh Samui is the second largest island in Thailand. Palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and dense, mountainous rainforest, plus luxury resorts and posh spas surround this island. The landmark 12m-tall golden Big Buddha statue at Wat Phra Yai Temple is located on a tiny island connected to Ko Samui by a causeway. This is the ideal spot to go to Ko Pha Ngan where the full moon parties happen. It is very important to book a ferry in advance as all the ferries go full.

I have covered the famous beaches, you can refer the map for more details and better understanding.

Koh Samui Best Beaches – Chaweng Beach

Koh Samui Best Beaches – Chaweng Beach

Located in the north east, just south of Choeng Mon, this is where most of the islanders reside. Koh Samui’s busiest and biggest town has sprung up around one of the island’s best beaches. The town comes alive at night, and party goers will find the nightlife here to be ahead of anywhere else on Samui in terms of choice. Chawneg beach is no doubt the best of Koh Samui Best Beaches.

Lamai Beach

Lamai Beach

A beautiful long stretch of beach absolutely perfect for kicking back and relaxing or simply enjoying a quiet swim, Lamai is out of the way, making it a perfect destination for those looking for a quieter, more peaceful vacation.

Bophut Beach

This beach is known for its long coastline. The sand is not as powdery as other Koh Samui beaches but the scenery at Bophut is beautiful and the water calm and great for swimming. The beach spans several kilometers between the Big Buddha and the Maenam Beach.

Maenam Beach

Maenam Beach

Located in the other direction on the island’s north shore, the stunning Maenam Beach lies to the west of Choeng Mon, about a ½ hour drive until you reach the busy town of Maenam. The beach runs for 7 kilometers, and is favored among windsurfers.

Choeng Mon Beach

Choeng Mon Beach

Cheong Mon Beach is a crescent shape white sandy beach, plus 3 other quiet bays to the north and south. (Plai Leim, Thongson and Thongsai bays). Situated on the northeastern tip of the island, the Chongmoen area is one of mystical secluded bays, quiet back roads and breaking surf on huge granite rocks. The Big Buddha is also close-by, and the beautiful private Samui airport is just 5 minutes away!

Lipa Noi

This place has 2 beaches and it has fine white sand and is shallow at low tide, making it ideal for kids but only good for swimming at high tide. The shallow waters up to 100 meters and the absence of corals and rocks in the water, It is the best beach in Koh Samui for kids. Its remoteness attracts the tourists who seek a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation.

Taling Ngam

Taling Ngam Beach

Covered with pristine jungles, the Taling Ngam beach is the most picturesque Koh Samui beach. It offers stunning views of Angthong Marine National Park.

Silver Beach

Silver Beach

It is located between Lamai and Chaweng beaches. The 250 meter long tropical beach is a much smaller Koh Samui beach, set in a charming little bay. The four beach resorts, viz. Crystal Bay Beach Resort, Crystal Bay Yacht Club, Silver Beach Resort, and Thongtakian Resort, occupy the full length of the beach.

Bang Rak Beach

This place is also reffered as Big Buddha beach and it is at the northernmost tip of Koh Samui. Aa good place to stay if you intend to take a speed boat to the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan since there is a pier that can take you. The relaxed and lively party atmosphere at night suits most people. For budget travellers, this is my top pick of all the Koh Samui beaches.
