About the Places

National Museum of the Royal Barge – For reference in Thai, it is called พิพิธภัณฑ์เรือพระราชพิธี

The museum is situated on a canal side and exhibits a number of royal barges in several ceremonial occasions such as the formal observances of the Golden Jubilee; the 6th cycle anniversary; the Diamond Jubilee of the king’s accession to the throne and etc․

 

The Market Behind The Former Palace – For reference in Thai, it is called ตลาดวังหลัง

The local people call the area “Wang Lang”․ It comprises the neighborhoods of the hospital & the medical school; temples; local communities including the famous market which is covered with a lot of commercial shops, along the alleyways to relish some savoring taste of food and snacks․

 

Itinerary

  • Upon meeting at the station of the Sky Train or BTS, Saphan Taksin Station (exit direction number 2), the journey is started
  • Hop on the public ferry or Chao Phraya Express Boat to the pier of Pinklao Bridge․
  • Walking tour through the hidden communities and head for the National Museum of the Royal Barges․
  • Visit the museum, one of the national heritages․
  • Travel by a local transport to the Siriraj area, the location of the famous urban hospital․
  • Visit the local market, the market behind former palace or the market of Wang Lang․
  • Taste some local delicacies under own selected choices such as snacks or food․
  • Experience a local transport to the station of the Sky Train at Wongwian Yai BTS Station․
  • Travel by a sector of the Sky Train to the starting location․

Meeting location

The exit direction of number 2 at the station of the Sky Train, Saphan Taksin Station, it is displayed on the indicated sign and it is easy to access for the meeting point, just follow the sign to the exit number 2․

End location: to the same as the original starting spot at station of the Sky Train, Saphan Taksin Station․ (BTS stands for Bangkok Mass Transit System or also called Sky Train)
