Chiang Mai Must See

Doi Inthanon National Park – Chiang Mai Must See

Chiang Mai Must See – Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand. It is in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province. This mountain is an ultra prominent peak, known in the past as Doi Luang (meaning `Big Mountain’) or Doi Ang Ka, meaning the `Crow’s Pond Top’ or `The Roof of Thailand’. Near the mountain’s base was a pond where many crows gathered. The name Doi Inthanon was given in honor of King Inthawichayanon, one of the last kings of Chiang Mai.

The main attractions of the park are the summit of Doi Inthanon for its spectacular views of early morning, several waterfalls, few trails and the two chedis (stupas) dedicated to the king and queen 60th birthday anniversaries. Due to the high altitude, the park has high humidity and cold weather all year round. The average daily temperatures are normally around 10-12 °C.

Due to hunting and habitat change, bigger mammals such as elephants, tigers, gaurs has been extirpated from the park. Some mammals such as wild boars, gibbons, deer, and serows still inhabit the park. There are currently around 65 mammals in the national park, half of these bat species.

The entrance fee is 300 THB for foreigners (children 150 THB) and 50 THB for local tourists (children 20 THB).

Hot Air Balloon Sky Adventure

You have to try this. Its must do thing before you die (really). It’s expensive though Rs.15,000-20,000. I have mentioned two websites below for further details.

Hot air balloons are something special in comparison to other forms of flight. Hot air balloons drift gracefully above the ground at heights of up to 10,000 feet. You don’t feel the wind, you are a part of it, almost not even realizing you are moving. Typically, though, most Hot air balloon flights are 500 to 2,000 feet above ground.where peace and tranquility reign as you float over the tree tops above the beautiful countryside. As the balloon rises, your panoramic view is a perspective that you won’t soon forget.

This tour is only available during the winter months as the weather plays a major factor in each flight. The cooler morning temperatures are more ideal for this area of the world as the afternoon temperatures are too high.

Enjoy a breathtaking hot air balloon flight above beautiful Chiang Mai. Witness Chiang Mai’s sunrise at its best while flying over trees, villages, lakes, wildlife. A scenery to die for.

Once of a life experience to be shared with your loved ones. Including a champagne celebration upon landing.

You can also try Microlight Flight. Which are cheaper (Rs.4000-5000). Its a short flight for 15 minutes, but hey it an experience.

You can check out more details on these websites Hot Air Balloon Adventure or here.

The Sunday Market

The Sunday Market (or Walking Street) is a large market located right in the center of the old walled city area of Chiang Mai. Starting at the Tha Phae Gate at one end the Sunday Market extends for roughly 1km down the full length of Ratchadamnoen Road. You can go to the Market every Sunday from 4 pm till midnight.

Unlike the Night Bazaar which is filled with imitation designer labels, the Sunday Market is a showcase of the art and craftsmanship of the Northern Thai people. Many of the stall vendors make and sell their own products and the quality of craftsmanship is superb. The goods available are made from a wide variety of materials such as silk, paper, fabric, wood, metal, glass, ceramic etc.

Chiang Mai Must See
Temples on either side of the road become food courts where you can sample everything from fried rice to deep-fried crickets and there are tons of refreshment stalls set up along the road.
